Secondary abstract: | The purpose of this diploma work is to develop an algorithm for compressing LIDAR (Light Detection and Ranging) data, which are saved in LAS files. Firstly, we discuss in details the structure and meaning of each part of the LAS file. In the continuation we examine why data can be compressed and which algorithms can be applied. These algorithms are then briefly considered. Huffman and arithmetic coding are explained in details. Arithmetic coding is used in our compression algorithm, which concrete implementation is presented. At the end, we compare the developed algorithm with other software for data compression. |
