Abstract

V diplomskem delu so podrobneje obravnavana zadnja tri orodja.

Secondary title: ǂThe ǂrole of translation software-case study of slovenian-german glossary of computer terms
Secondary abstract: Translation is a very complex process in which the translator has to be familiar with many fields and has to be willing to gain new knowledge. One's line of work is almost impossible without the use of information and communication technology, which provides many options for quicker and more effective but not any less qualitative work in one's discipline. At the same time one is faced with new facts and challenges due to the haste of the developments to select the most appropriate option amongst all those that are available. It is important for the translator to make a critical judgment and assessment of the software, i.e. what does it offer, and when and what software to use. Ultimately one has to fulfill the expectations of target audience and norms of target culture. It matters whether one translates a text in the field of medicine or a weather forecast. The software also offers different support. Tools, available to the translator, are translation memories, terminology dictionaries, thesauruses, electronic dictionaries, corpuses, systems of statistical machine translation and glossaries. Graduation thesis approaches last three listed tools in detail. Thesis makes an interesting comparison between online translation services Google Translate and Microsoft Bing, and also glossary of computer specialist terminology as a program in a programming language Visual Basics, which we programmed ourselves. Although it may seem that especially online translators present one of the most highly potential technologies which achieved enviable level of reliability and accuracy, performed analysis and comparison clearly show that they are not nearly sufficient to be an adequately qualitative device in the translation process.
