(diplomsko delo)

Knowledge of First Aid at Children Scouts |
Sekundarni povzetek: |
Introduction: First aid combines knowledge that should be acquired by as many people as possible. In Slovenia, this type of knowledge is not obtained in school, so children need to acquire it in other extracurricular activities. Research showed that children aged six can already start learning about first aid.
Methods: We wanted to determine the level of first aid knowledge in children who are scouts and attend the last three grades of primary school. A quantitative research method was used. The data were obtained through a survey, to which responded 58 children, who attend the seventh, eighth or ninth grades. The survey was conducted in cooperation with different Scout groups in Slovenia. The data were analysed and processed using the Microsoft Office Excel program.
Results: In the research, we determined that children's general knowledge about first aid is broad, as more than 70% of them responded correctly to the majority of questions. The knowledge of seventh-graders is a little greater than the knowledge of ninth-graders. They were all familiar with the emergency hotline number and the majority of them were aware of the concept of first aid. 96% of children would check breathing correctly and almost 80% of them would perform CPR in the appropriate ratio.
Discussion and conclusion: Acquiring first aid knowledge has a positive impact on one's preparedness to perform first aid. Furthermore, it is essential if we want to create a safer environment. We determined that children have considerable knowledge about first aid, yet they can always broaden it. |
