Pfeifer.

Sekundarni naslov: ǂThe ǂpresence of fear and anxiety in patients before the planned eye surgery and the role of the nurse
Sekundarni povzetek: Introduction: Surgery represents a challenging situation that affects the patient's mental state. Even though it may be perceived differently by each individual, it is common for patients to experience fear and anxiety. Purpose: Thesis describes the fear and anxiety that patients experience before eye surgery, it tries to determine the main reasons for it and explains the importance of the nurse’s comprehensive preparation of the patient, to successfully recognize and eliminate the fear. Methods: DiKUL, PubMED and CINAHL search engines were used for the theoretical part of the thesis, where I reviewed the domestic and foreign scientific literature, not older than 10 years. In the empirical part of the thesis, I used a questionnaire with questions about the presence of fear among patients waiting for surgery and psychological preparation of patients by health professionals. The questionnaire was completed by patients who underwent surgery at the Eye Surgery Center dr. Pfeifer at the time of the survey. The survey was conducted in the period from 8th to 16th of June 2020. Results: 80 respondents completed the questionnaire, of which 37 were men and 43 were women. From the results of the research, we can see that more than half of the respondents felt fear before the surgery, regardless of whether they have had surgery in the past or not. The results show that most respondents feel fear of pain before surgery. Most respondents believe that they received enough information before surgery, which is also one of the main ways of how to reduce the fear of the surgery. Discussion and conclusion: Proper mental preparation of the patient before surgery is crucial in reducing fear and anxiety before surgery. The nurse which spends the most time with the patient, plays a big role in the mental preparation. Above all, good communication and professional relationship between the patient and the nurse, are the most important factors to achieve a quality nursing care.
