Sekundarni naslov: | Role of certified first responders in rescue and protection system |
Sekundarni povzetek: | Introduction: Cardiovascular disease is the main reason for death of adult population in Europe. The incidence of cardiac arrest in Slovenija is between 2 and 3 people per day. 3 to 5 minutes after cardiac arrest unrepairable brain damage begins. Only solution is immediate start of proper cardiopulmonary resuscitation with the use of automated external defibrillator. Emergency medical units are often too far. They usually arrive too late to the scene. For that purpose, units of first responders are initiated across Europe and over the world. First responders are laypersons trained by professional health workers. Purpose: Purpose of diploma Work is to represent meaning of system for first responders in rescue and protection system in Slovenia. Methods: Descriptive approach was used. We reviewed scientific and professional literature in Slovenian and English language. We also reviewed legal regulations in the field of prehospital patient care. The search of literature was done between march and December 2021. We used 15 units of literature in final review. Results: We collected information about different first responders’ systems around the world. All research confirmed faster response times for first responders in compare to emergency medical units. Percentages of patient survival were also improved. Cerebral performance category was improved in scenarios with faster start of cardiopulmonary resuscitation. The use of mobile app and global positioning system is the quickest way for alerting in urban areas. The use of volunteer firefighter units allows quickest implementation of system in rural areas. Discussion and conclusion: We confirmed the importance of rapid cardiopulmonary resuscitation start for cardiac arrest patients. First responders arrived to the scene in average 6 minutes before the arrival of emergency medical units. Different types of systems are in use over the world. The system of first responders is also good in Slovenian regions but involves many flaws. |
