Povzetek

Concerning the consumption of information and communication technology this article belongs to the discussion within communication as well as within the sociological field. The author approaches the process of consumption of modern technology from two sides: the subject concentrates primarily on the private sphere and reveals indicators of gender differences in relation to information and communication technology. Technology does not have essentially masculine or feminine characteristics. However, the aim of this analysis is to show how the meaning and use of modern technology differentiates between men and women, how this differentiation occurs and how it is obtained. The contrasts in the extent and in the way we constitute our relations towards technology in the private sphere are connected with relations and situations in the public sphere. The constitution of technology thus depends on social and cultural situations within both spheres: private and public.
