The success of clinical studies mainly depends on the quality of data, gathered during each study. The quality of the gathered data depends on the selection of an appropriate healthcare information system, that has to be defined in conjunction with the plan of the clinical study. It would also be optimal, if the variables of the study could be specified in a unique and standardized way, so that they could be used in further clinical trials. Interoperability has an important role in connecting healthcare information systems, because it enables the gathering of data from different sources and in this way provides a means for connecting different information systems and solutions. Standards, who facilitate the selection of information and promote integration of components into the information systems, present a necessary requirement for providing interoprability between information systems. The main theme of this thesis is the creation of an operational template or a clinical data model for the purpose of a walk test with the use of the OpenEHR standard, which places great emphasis on the interoprability between different healthcare information systems. It describes how OpenEHR archetypes are used for specifying the elements of this standard and how these archetypes are defined. It also gives a brief overview of two main healthcare information standards. |
