The aim of the thesis is to analyze the performance of the child with cochlear implant (CI) at language, math and movement activities.
For the purpose of research exercises from all three above mentioned activities are prepared. Results of the exercises constitute the ground for the comparison of a child with CI and children with no hearing disability.
Testing language skills was performed with exercises that included understanding, diction and identifying syllables. Mathematic skills were tested with tasks, which contained counting, sorting, and practical application of a number. Exercises that included fine motor skills, for example carrying the ball in one hand past the obstacles, keeping the ball and rolling the ball past the barriers were constituted for testing movement. Each of the activity included three different tasks that were basis for the evaluation.
The results show that the child with the CI differs significantly from children with no hearing disability in its language skills, while mathematics and movement do not show major deviations. In the field of movement fine motor skills, the child with the CI has achieved better result or better timing than children without hearing disability. This confirms that the child with the CI does not deviate from other children without hearing disability in the movement tasks. |
