Sekundarni jezik: Angleški jezik
Sekundarni naslov: Learning about medical plants with preschool children
Sekundarni povzetek: The diploma thesis is divided into two parts, theoretical and practical. The first part consists of general characteristics concerning medicinal plants; how to store, pick and grow them, as well as what kind of remedies can be made out of them. There are also descriptions of sixteen medical plants which the children got to know to and for which I believe everyone should be familiar with. The second part of diploma thesis is divided into two parts. In the first part, I interviewed seventy-three children aged from five to six attending four different kindergartens; in order to find out how knowledgeable they are about medical plants (what medical plants are, where they grow, what can be made out of them, their names and whether they can be poisonous). My findings are presented with charts. The results have shown that the children have poor knowledge of medical plants and their names, what can be made out of them and that it is possible to use whole medical plants for medical purposes. In the second part, I performed different activities with a group of twenty-two children for a period of two months. The children were introduced to medical plants through a story called Zelišča male čarovnice (Herbs of a Little Witch). We planted four different medical plants (sage, pot marigold, chamomile and lemon balm) and the children took care of them every day. We also went to a meadow to identify and gather plants with the help of a Plant Guide. The plants were later dried and stored; some of them were used for making different remedies; from pot marigold balm, lemon balm oil, spruce tips syrup, bear’s garlic spread to cooking various sorts of tea. After the end of our activities, I visited the kindergarten again in two weeks’ time and interviewed the children because I was curious how much they have learnt. The results have shown that the children have become little experts of medical plants.

V drugem delu sem s skupino dvaindvajsetih otrok v vrtcu dva meseca izvajala različne dejavnosti.
