The attitude of school children towards the functional foods |
Sekundarni povzetek: |
The aim of this thesis was to examine closely the extent to which students know the concept of functional foods and their attitude towards them. We also tried to find out if there were any differences between children, that live in urban environment and visit schools in cities and children, that live in rural environment and visit schools in villages in understanding that term. We got the data from questionnaire that was answered by 122 students of sixth class in two schools, one in urban and one in rural environment. The results show that students know very little about functional foods. We also found out that there are differences in knowledge about this term considering the environment students live in, namely students who live in cities know more about the meaning of this term than students who live in villages. Besides that, we examined two weekly menus from two different schools, also one from urban and one from rural environment. The results show that there are some functional foods added to school menus, in most cases in forms of fruit and vegetables, whole-grain products, milk and dairy products. Considering the usefulness of functional foods we suggest that school nutrition would more frequently include those foods. It would also be recommended that students learn about functional foods in school and that this term would be added to curriculum. |
