Sekundarni povzetek: This thesis is divided in two parts. In the first part, the earthquake as natural phenomenon, a procedure for determination of the seismic forces and a model of the capacity of masonry walls associated with the flexural, the sliding shear and the shear failure due to formation of diagonal cracks are presented. The second part of the thesis addresses the earthquake resistance of the building, which is located in the Upper Posocje region, and was damaged by earthquakes in 1998 and 2004. An analysis is performed for the case when the building has not yet been damaged. Seismic response of building is evaluated independently with consideration of response of the critical bottom storey only. Based on the weight of the building, the seismic force is calculated and redistributed on the each wall on the basis of its stiffness ratio. When we acquire all information, a capacity of each wall, which was determined as minimum of capacities corresponded to the three failure modes, is calculated. Results of analysis have showed that building does not meet the safety requirements according to Eurocode 6 and 8.
