Sekundarni povzetek: The diploma work entitled Developing a child's vocabulary with a picture book includes theoretical and empirical part. The term of a picture book is defined in the theoretical part in connection with development of vocabulary, reading and literacy as with reading picture books vocabulary is developed and consequently also literacy. Adults can encourage and improve child s vocabulary by reading picture books to them regularly, by talking about them and by correcting their pronunciation. The aim of this diploma work is to realise how to chose quality picture books, how to present them to children and to find out how and how much parents read to children. The empirical part is based on a questionairre I gave to parents of kindergarten children. I wanted to find out when, how and how much parents read to children,how and which picture books they choose and how important they find reading and developing children's vocabulary.

Povzetek (ePrints): Diplomsko delo z naslovom S slikanico razvijamo otrokovo besedišče obsega teoretični in empirični del. V teoretičnem delu je opredeljen pojem slikanica in v povezavi z njim razvoj besedišča, branje in pismenost, saj z branjem slikanic razvijamo besedišče in posledično tudi pismenost. Odrasli lahko veliko pripomorejo h kakovostnejšemu razvoju besedišča, če otroku redno berejo, se z njim pogovarjajo ob slikanicah in popravljajo njihovo izreko. Cilj diplomskega dela je ugotoviti, kako izbirati kakovostne slikanice, kako jih predstaviti otrokom in raziskati, kako ter koliko starši berejo svojim otrokom. V empiričnem delu sem izhajala iz anketnega vprašalnika, ki sem ga posredovala staršem otrok v vrtcu. Z njim sem želela izvedeti kako, koliko in kdaj starši berejo svojim otrokom, kako in katere slikanice izbirajo ter kako pomembno se jim zdi branje in razvijanje otrokovega besedišča.
