Povzetek

Magistrska naloga povzema teoretična izhodišča o kognitivnih, psiholoških, razvojnih in socialnih lastnostih učencev, ki se prvič srečajo z angleškim jezikom, njihov način pridobivanja tujega jezika in zakaj so prav pesmi tiste, ki so učencem v 1. vzgojno-izobraževalnem obdobju (VIO) tako blizu. Učenci s pomočjo pesmi spoznavajo različne kulture, v katerih so le-te nastale, in širijo svoja obzorja. Ob poslušanju ali petju pesmi se zabavajo, sprostijo, radi ob njih zaplešejo, v šoli pa jih pesmi motivirajo tudi za nadaljnje delo. Dosedanje teorije in različne raziskave govorijo o prednostih poučevanja angleškega jezika s pomočjo pesmi, saj te pripomorejo k boljši zapomnitvi in izgovorjavi. Namen naše raziskave je ugotoviti pomen poučevanja angleškega jezika s pomočjo pesmi v 1. VIO v slovenskih OŠ oz. natančneje v 1. razredu, saj takšna raziskava še ni bila izvedena v Sloveniji. Predstavljena je prednost poučevanja angleškega jezika s pomočjo angleških pesmi na zapomnitev angleških jezikovnih vsebin in njihovo natančno izgovarjavo. Temeljne ugotovitve naše raziskave, ki je zajemala 230 učencev 1. razreda in je potekala od oktobra 2010 do maja 2011, so, da so bili učenci eksperimentalne skupine (ES), ki so se angleških jezikovnih vsebin učili predvsem s pomočjo angleških pesmi, v prednosti pri zapomnitvi vsebin in tudi v njihovi izgovorjavi pred učenci kontrolne skupine (KS), ki so se enakih vsebin učili na tradicionalni način. Rezultati so pokazali, da so učenci ES pri preverjanju znanja dosegli boljše rezultate od učencev KS tako pri zapomnitvi angleških jezikovnih vsebin kot tudi pri njihovi pravilni izgovarjavi. Iz tega smo zaključili, da učenje angleškega jezika s pomočjo pesmi pripomore h kakovostnejši zapomnitvi in boljši izgovarjavi angleških vsebin. Učiteljem, ki poučujejo angleški jezik na razredni stopnji OŠ, pa predlagamo naj k poučevanju angleškega jezika čim pogosteje vključujejo pesmi, saj je kvalitetno znanje tujih jezikov v današnjem času globalizacije postalo že skoraj nuja in ne več le prednost.

Sekundarni povzetek: This master's thesis summarises theoretical issues about cognitive, psychological, developmental and social characteristics of pupils who learn English as a foreign language , about their way of acquiring a foreign language, and why songs are so "close" to the pupils in the first educational cycle of primary schooling (6 - 8 years of age). With the help of songs pupils learn about different cultures in which these songs were written as well as broaden their horizons. By listening or singing songs they have fun, relax, they like to dance to songs, and by singing songs at school they also become motivated for further studying. Theories and various different research studies present the advantages of teaching English l with the help of songs, since they contribute to improved memorisation and pronunciation. The aim of our research study is to establish the importance of teaching English with the help of songs in the first educational cycle of Slovenian primary schools: or more precisely in the first grades of the primary school, since such research has yet not been carried out in Slovenia. The beneficial effect of teaching of English with the help of songs in English on memorisation of the English linguistic contents and on their accurate pronunciation is presented. The basic findings of our research study that covered 230 first grade pupils, and which was being carried out from October 2010 till May 2011, are that the pupils of the experimental group (EG) who had studied the English linguistic contents primarily with the use of the English songs had the advantage over the pupils of the control group (CG) which was studying the same linguistic contents in a traditional way as far as memorisation of the contents as well as pronunciation is concerned. The results have shown that the pupils of the EG have reached much better results when being assessed than the pupils of the CG, both in memorisation of the English linguistic content as well as in accuracy of their pronunciation. From this we have drawn the conclusion that studying English by the help of songs contributes to a better quality of memorisation and a better pronunciation of the English contents. We propose to the teachers who teach English at the primary level (first to fourth grades) that they as often as possible include songs when teaching the English language, since high quality of knowledge of foreign languages has in our times of globalisation become almost a necessity and not merely an advantage.
