COACH VIOLENCE IN MARTIAL ARTS CLUBS |
Sekundarni povzetek: |
Sport, is an important socio-cultural phenomenon. Sometimes violence and bad behaviour in sports can be understood as an effective way of bringing about victory. Thus, the medialized top-level sports that are attractive to spectators are seen as a possible outlet for human aggression: today’s medialized sports provide an experience of suspense rather than relaxation. In this context, four basic types of violence within the field of sports should be mentioned: brutal physical contact, borderline violence, semi-criminal violence and criminal violence. Strength-requiring highperformance sports sometimes use harsh physical contact in various manifestations of violence, brutality or intimidation as a part of the game strategy. Criminal or semi-criminal behaviour is condemned, while brutal physical contact on the verge of violence has become part of the rules of the game.
Martial arts as a spor tor as a way of life bring violence or something akin to violence to our daily lives. Although martial arts are a deeply spiritual and enlightened experiences, they still remain deeply rooted in the archaic mentality of their founders. Martial arts are a way of progress for the trainee in every aspect of their lives as they soothe the mind and strengthen the body. But where is good there is also bad. In essence martial arts are a dangerous practice as they teach us to inflict harm to our opponents and they don't teach that on a boxing bag bug on a live human being. But we as a society have accepted that as something normal, as something we like to watch as a spectator sport (olympic sports, big MMA competitions, etc.) no matter our past experience or inexperience in martial arts. And as we move further away from allowed and expected injuries and violence in martial arts we see that there is a presence of psychological, sexual and physical (more profound and serious) violence in this system of warrior codes and values that is supposed to be moral and ethical.
The victims of this »added« violence in martial arts are usually quiet and don't report these violent incidents to the proper authorities. Some because they are afraid, some think this is beneath them and that it will be honourless and some even take these incidents as part of their training.
In this paper we have decided to portray these different kinds of violence that appear in martial arts from the sides of the coaches, for which we have questioned a big sample of people who train martial arts. This bachelor thesis will present the theory first and our analitical findings last. |
