Povzetek
Blagodejni učinki izpostavljenosti naravi na duševno zdravje v zadnjih letih je vedno bolj zanimivo za raziskovanje. K temu prispeva tako globalno rastoča stopnja urbanizacije kot rast težav v duševnem zdravju. Ob mnogih dokazih o pozitivni povezanosti narave in duševnega zdravja prihaja v ospredje tudi raziskovanje mehanizmov, s katerimi se vzpostavlja ta odnos. Namen raziskave je preučiti odnos med stikom z naravo in duševnim zdravjem ter preveriti določene mehanizme, s katerimi se ta odnos vzpostavlja. Želeli smo tudi preveriti, ali lahko stik z naravo deluje kot varovalni dejavnik v težavah z duševnim zdravjem. Na vzorcu 436 posameznikov smo preverili stik z naravo s pomočjo treh lestvic, in sicer z Lestvico izpostavljenosti naravi (NES), Lestvico psihološkega obnavljanja po stiku z naravo (ROS) in Lestvico povezanosti z naravo (CNS). Vidike duševnega zdravja smo preverjali z WHO-5 kazalcem blaginje, 6-stopenjsko De Jong Gierveld lestvico za emocionalno in socialno osamljenost, Vprašalnikom depresivnosti, anksioznosti in stresa (DASS-21) ter Lestvico samomorilne ideacije (PSS). Rezultati so pokazali, da izpostavljenost naravi pomembno pozitivno napoveduje psihološko blagostanje ter negativno indikatorje slabega duševnega zdravja in samomorilno ideacijo. Kot pomemben mehanizem tega odnosa se je izkazalo psihološko obnavljanje po stiku z naravo, in ne povezanosti z naravo. Prav tako odnos med izpostavljenostjo naravi in duševnim zdravjem pomembno pojasnjuje nižanje osamljenosti, ki jo spodbuja izpostavljenost naravi. Psihološko obnavljanje po stiku z naravo lahko deluje kot varovalni dejavnik v primeru povezanosti osamljenosti s samomorilno ideacijo, in ne v primeru povezanosti z indikatorji slabega duševnega zdravja. Ugotovitve lahko impliciramo na področje promocije duševnega zdravja, hkrati odpirajo možnosti za nadaljnje raziskovanje znotraj slovenskega prostora.

The connection between mental health and contact with nature |

The beneficial effects of nature on mental health have attracted more and more interest from the academic community in recent years. Contributing to this are a globally increasing level of urbanisation and an increase in mental health issues. Alongside more and more evidence on the positive correlation between nature and mental health, studies of mechanisms on said correlation are also coming to the forefront. The purpose of this thesis and study is to examine the relationship between nature and mental health and specific mechanisms through which this relationship is established. A further point of examination was whether contact with nature can serve as a protective factor with mental health issues. This was analysed on a sample size of 436 via three scales, namely the Nature Exposure Scale (NES), Restoration Outcome Scale (ROS) and Connectedness to Nature Scale (CNS). Mental health aspects were checked via the WHO-5 Well-Being Index; the 6-point De Jong Gierveld Loneliness Scale; Depression, Anxiety and Stress Scales (DASS-21) and the Paykel Suicidal Scale (PSS). The results have shown that exposure to nature is a significant positive indicator of psychological well-being and a negative indicator of poor mental health and suicidal tendencies. Psychological restoration after being in nature, not connectedness to nature, has surfaced as an important mechanism of this relationship. Furthermore, the relationship between exposure to nature and mental health offers an important explanation for the decrease of loneliness after exposure to nature. Psychological restoration after being in nature may function as a protective factor in cases with suicidal tendencies, but not with poor mental health indicators. These findings may be applied to mental health awareness and simultaneously open possibilities for further research in Slovenia. |
