diplomsko delo

Gender differences in the field of labour and employment |
Sekundarni povzetek: |
The thesis discusses the differences between the genders in the field of work and employment. It focuses on the characteristics and the level of women employment in Slovenia, as well as a separate analysis of occupations in which women are employed. It explains whether men and women have equal access to any position on the hierarchy scale of certain occupational or professional profiles, the possible differences in pay and valorisation of work, and the differences between the genders according to their presence within a certain occupation. It establishes whether, through their goals and programs, international organisations help improve the position of women in employment policy. The findings were established through an analysis of primary and secondary sources, data obtained from the Statistical Office of the Republic of Slovenia, other other emperical studies and an own questionnaire to determine the differences related to burden of family commitments, examine the positions on coordinating private with professional life, and the accessibility of professional career to a woman. Over the past years, the level of women employed in Slovenia is in decline and remains lower than the level of men employed. Women are still employed in feminised occupations, make less than men on average and do not take sufficient leading and head positions. They still encounter numerous obstacles and stereotypes that influence their promotion to higher and better paid positions as well as the valorisation of their work. International organisations help improve the position of women in employment policy. The questionnaire did not confirm the expectation that women have more issues with coordinating professional and private life and less accessibility to a professional career. However, the research cannot be applied to Slovenian environment due to its small sample and its local/regional limitations. |
