Abstract

Izbrali smo dejavnost, ki smo jo zasledili v članku z naslovom Practical Problems: Using Literature to Teach Statistics. Dejavnost smo izvedli v vrtcu, v drugi starostni skupini otrok (3-6 let), in jo natančneje opisali v praktičnem delu. Otroci so skozi dejavnost spoznavali postopke zbiranja podatkov in različne prikaze le-teh.

Secondary title: Representing data collection in kindergarten mathematics
Secondary abstract: The diploma thesis "Representing data collection in kindergarten mathematics" represents an activity that includes children's mathematical skills in the domain of representing data collection. The thesis ensued an activity from the article "Practical Problems: Using Literature to Teach Statistics". This activity was implemented in a kindergarten secondary age group (3-6 year olds) and thoroughly described in the practical part of this thesis. Through the activity the children learned about data collection procedures and how to present the collected data in different ways. Children's graphic literacy was asserted in three distinct categories. Findings showed that children were more successful with the first category as the questions were less demanding in comparison to the other two. The next two categories required knowledge not only of gathering information but also understanding the graphs, addition and subtraction and comparison as well as prediction and conclusion based on the given data. Differences were also established between girls and boys. Boys were in all three categories more successful.
