Abstract

Secondary title: The meaning of non-verbal communication in organizations
Secondary abstract: Non-verbal communication is always around no matter where we are. It is present at home as well as at work. We cannot avoid it, it is part of us and we use it in communication even when we do not expect it, so we are often not aware of it. The purpose of our thesis is to introduce non-verbal communication in organizations for it is a very important element for our communication. It can be expressed in many ways: facial expression, body language and appearance. Each our non-verbal communication has the same meaning in our personal as well as in our business world. Disagreements can happen when participants in communication belong to different cultures. The first theoretical part introduces communication, non-verbal communication, business communication and forms of non-verbal communication. Most often used gestures and their meanings are presented as well. The second research part shows what non-verbal communication means to people in organizations, if they consciously observe it and what certain gestures mean to them. The purpose of our research is to emphasize the importance of non-verbal communication so that people would pay more attention to it. Non-verbal communication can tell us if our co-speaker is honest or not, if he pays attention in conversation. Furthermore, non-verbal communication shows co-speaker's thoughts and feelings. It is important to pay attention to non-verbal communication in business world. If we can interpret it, it leads to better relations among employees and our business partners.
