Abstract

Secondary title: Students' attitudes towards elderly people and aging
Secondary abstract: Personality and social beliefs of the late age are generally negative. Most people consider the late adulthood only as a period of decrease of the life power (decreasing vitality) and an increase in vulnerability in all areas of one's life. With the aim to increase the understanding of older people and improve the relationship towards the old people, for decades many researchers have been trying to measure the level of knowledge among the students, clinical professors and mentors. Only more knowledge about the gerontological health care and treatment can help graduates of nursing care show greater interest in working with the elderly. The purpose of the thesis is to present the problem of the ageing of the population and to research what is the attitude of the students towards the elderly and ageing. In the theoretical part, we used the descriptive method to work with domestic and foreign literature, which is not older than 10 years. In research work we have used a questionnaire, which we have partially created ourselves, and partly summarised it by Kogan (1961). With questionnaire we measured the attitude of students towards the elderly and aging. According to the results of where is the average value of the points, 121 out of a possible 204. The relationship is positive. In the relationship depending on the year amounts to p = 0.31, depending on the field of study, p = 0,64, which means that there is no statistically characteristic differences In the field of nursing elderly we propose to improve the knowledge of students about gerontology, so that there will be as small differences between class as they can be, and more clinical practice in rest homes, so that the stereotypes get broken. What is important is the promotion of health care of elderly, so that more students decide to work in this area, because due to the increased ageing of the population, there is also increase in the employments.
