Abstract

Secondary title: Motivation of young people for the education
Secondary abstract: Motivation, learning and education are factors that go hand in hand and without which it does not go when an individual wishes to gain necessary knowledge with which he will later perform the desired profession. We were interested in motivation of the youngs in a dissertation, more specific, of high schoolers and students, for education and learning. We studied which motivation factors influence the decision to continue education and which then motivates young people to finish this education. In the theoretical part of the dissertation, we defined the education in the first part, described its meaning and goals and described the functioning of the school system in the Republic of Slovenia. In the second part, we defined concept of motivation and motive, learning motivation and the difference between external and internal motivation. We also presented 17 motivation factors that, in our opinion, motivate the young people to enter in the chosen education, 8 motivation factors that motivate them to complete the selected education, therefore to learn, and 17 obstacles that demotivate young people and hinder their learning. In the research part of dissertation, we obtained data of young people who are currently involved in secondary or study education about the importance of motivation factors that motivate them to enter in the selected education and those that motivate them to complete their education or learning, using a questionnaire. We also obtained information on the importance of the obstacles that are demotivating them for learning. By analyzing the data, we came to an interesting conclusion, that secondary school students are most motivated by their own interest in the chosen education, while the students motivates most to acquire a higher level of education. To complete the education, both groups motivate the most their own interest. For learning, secondary school students are most hindered by an uninteresting learning substance, while students are most hindered by lack of time. At the end of our dissertation we formed conclusions and written results.
