Abstract

Secondary title: Preschool education students' self-evaluation of their perental engagement competence
Secondary abstract: My graduation thesis Preschool Education Students' Self-Evaluation of Their Parental Engagement Competences consists of a theoretical and an empirical part. In the theoretical part, I first present the preschool education study programme and the importance of practice for our profession. I stress the importance of engaging preschool teachers with parents, since both sides have great interest in mutual engagement. Parents, who enrol their child in kindergarten, have the ability to choose a kindergarten. At the same time, they are expected to take part in their child's induction into the kindergarten, to cooperate with the preschool teachers daily and to participate in their child's kindergarten-school transfer. Competences, which are mastered during the preschool education study programme, are equally important. I have studied and presented competences. The empirical part consists of a survey about preschool students' readiness to engage with parents. Questionnaires have been delivered to students belonging to three Slovenian faculties in Maribor, Ljubljana and Koper. I have received 120 filled in questionnaires. I wanted to investigate what forms of engagement students find meaningful and if they feel qualified enough to engage with parents.
