Abstract

Secondary title: Parametric study of timber-glass shear walls applied in lightweight timber structures
Secondary abstract: The tendency for aesthetic constructions and use of ecological building materials is ever grater in modern society. The ideal constructions are built from timber as main construction material and have large transparent glass faces to the south side. But the use of these two materials is proven to be a challenging for assuring the required stability of the construction, since it has to withhold lateral forces as wind or earthquake. In this Master`s thesis, a research had been done on the racking resistance of timber-glass walls, where the insulating glass unit and timber frame are directly attached with an adhesive joint of polyurethane. For this purpose, an experimental research on seven specimens and several numerical analysis with software SolidWorks has been carried out. The effect of the thickness of the adhesive joint has been investigated, where a ductile behaviour has been proven for both timber-glass groups. A numerical numerical model has been calibrated so that it exhibits same characteristics as our experimental analysis. The main parameters, taken into account in the parametric study, beside the thickness of the adhesive joint, were the width of the glass panel.
