Abstract

Methodology of the research: The research was based on a descriptive method of work with the help of the foreign and domestic technical literature. Information for the research part was gained with the help of a quality method on the basis of the study sample with half – structured prepared questionnaire for the interview. The questions for the interview were composed according to fourteen life activities of Virginia Henderson. They were of open type with supplementary questions. With the study sample we treated the patient with bulimia nervosa. Results: The results showed that nurses need to know well all the risk factors of the emergence of bulimia nervosa, as well as the signs of the disease to be able to recognize it. Of great help are the fourteen life activities in theory of Virginia Henderson, which are needed to gain all important factors and to get familiar with causes for bulimia nervosa emergence. With the theory of V. Henderson nurses can discover corporate and qualitatively life of a bulimic person. They can find out with what kind of struggles in social, mental and physical fields the person is facing. Conclusion: The research showed that bulimia nervosa is a hidden disease. It is hardly curable, and that is why nurses have to recognize the first signs of the disease with the right approach. Nurses have to work in the field of prevention in schools and in medical institutions, in order to inform young people about eating disorders such as bulimia nervosa. With their preventative activities they can influence youth’s attitude to slimming and they can also inform juveniles on complications that appear with bulimia nervosa.
