Abstract

Secondary title: Control of a liquid flow system using flow sensor, automatic valve and feedback control
Secondary abstract: The main goal of the thesis was to test and study flow-control by using the demonstration device RT 624 and compare different controller types against each other in order to assess which one is the best. We performed feedback control using an automatic electric valve. In the first part of the thesis, we determined the linearity range of the automatic valve. With respect to this, we then performed a step change by means of which we determined the necessary parameters for a proportional, proportional-integrated, and proportional-integrated-differentiated control. By means of calculated parameters, we tested the appropriateness of these parameters in various kinds of control and observed the response of the system. We dealt with the servo problem where the system follows a reference value and with the regulator problem, where the system eliminates the disturbance. We monitored the time in which a new stationary state is achieved and the time in which disturbance is eliminated. We were attentive about the stability of the system, i.e. if the system oscillates and/or if the system responds with an overshoot. In order to approximate to the ideal response of the system, we determined the parameters for control also by trial and error. We ascertained that proportional-integrated-differentiated control is the best. We approximated to the ideal response of the system the most when we set the parameters by trying. We can say, however, that in some cases, the parameters for the control which were achieved in accordance with the step change are a very good approximation to the ideal response of the system.
