Abstract

Teoretična izhodišča: Študenti zdravstvene nege predstavljajo mlado, zdravo in dobro informirano populacijo o transfuzijski medicini, zaradi česar so zaželena tarča krvodajalstva. Raziskovalne metode: Uporabili smo deskriptivni pristop in kvantitativno metodologijo raziskovanja.

Secondary title: Knowledge and attitude of nursing students toward blood donation
Secondary abstract: Theoretical bases: Nursing students constitute a young, healthy and well-informed population about transfusion medicine, which makes them a wished target for blood donation. The attitude and knowledge about blood donation among the younger generation has a big influence on improving health care structure. The purpose of our research was to find out what knowledge and attitude nursing students have toward blood donation. Research methods: We used a descriptive approach and quantitative research methodology. Data were collected using a questionnaire. The survey was conducted online using an open code application EnKlikAnketa. Microsoft Excel was used for analysing collected data. Data are presented using tables and graphs. Results: 90 nursing students participated in our study. 67% had donated blood at least once. The average of correct answers to the statements used to test knowledge was 83.7%, which shows very good knowledge about blood donation and general awareness. They showed a very altruistic attitude toward blood donation. This is reflected in the frequency of blood donation, repeated blood donations, and a willingness to donate blood to relatives or friends (99%) and strangers (96%). Discussion and conclusion: We have found that nursing students are generally well-informed and have a good knowledge and attitude towards blood donation, as a humane act. Nursing students could be excellent motivators and facilitators for blood donation among college students.
