Secondary title: | Effect of HDPE recycling on the surface mechanical properties of polymer product |
Secondary abstract: | High density polyethylene is one of the most commonly used polymer materials. In the desire to protect and preserve the environment we live in and due to lack of raw materials for polymer products (especially in the near future) recycling of such material is being highly promoted. But after multiple processing cycles of the same material its mechanical properties change so much we could treat it as a completely different material. During this research we investigated whether we could predict elastic modulus and hardness of mixtures prepared from virgin and recycled HDPE with the rule of mixtures. We measured mechanical properties of samples with different parts of 10- and 30- times recycled material. For each sample with different concentration of recycled material we performed the measurements with nanoindenter using the CSM method. The results showed that we cannot predict neither elastic modulus nor hardness of the chosen mixtures with the rule of mixtures. |
