Abstract

Secondary title: Ivan Vurnik and the national style in slovenian architecture
Secondary abstract: Ivan Vurnik was one of the founders of modern architecture in Slovenia. He dealt with the issue of national style in architecture, urbanism and social construction. Since he came from a reputable artistic family, lots of his works were ordered by the Church. His sense of art was already laid in his cradle and he was a pioneer of introducing the Slovenian national style into architecture. The national style was also developed by many other nations in Europe, who in the time of modernism sought to create their own style and identity within multinational countries, monarchy. The time of modernity was an infinite source of inspiration for the society with the national awakening and development of the cities and industry. Architecturally, Ljubljana represented untapped potential, mainly due to the earthquake in 1895. Ivan Vurnik, as one of the greats of Slovenian architecture, helped with the reconstruction of the city. The Slovenian national style is represented by the Cooperative Commercial Bank on the Miklošičeva Street and the Sokolski Dom at Tabor.
