Abstract
Izbrana literatura izhaja iz podatkovnih baz COBIB.SI, CINAHL with Full Text, Medline (PubMed) in Cochrane library.

ǂThe ǂholistic approach of a nurse to a woman with chronic pelvic pain |
Secondary abstract: |
Introduction: Chronic pelvic pain is a periodic or recurring complex pain in the bottom part of the stomach or pelvis which lasts six months or more. This state heavily influences a patient’s quality of life, physical and mental health, interpersonal relationships at home and in the workplace. Purpose: We wish to study what aspects of women’s lives are affected by chronic pelvic pain and how, from the viewpoint of nursing, we can reduce the problems connected with this state and a way of assessment of pain. Methods: A descriptive method is used with a systematic overview of literature in Slovene and English. The time frame of integrated publications used was from 2006 to 2018. The chosen literature comes from the following databases: COBIB.SI, CINAHL with Full Text, Medline (PubMed) and Cochrane library. 17 articles were included in the content analysis. Results: Since chronic pelvic pain is a very complex state, detailed anamnesis and the invasive diagnostic process of laparoscopy are used to determine the cause. To assess the quality of life of women in this state, various scales and questionnaires are used, such as VAS, WHOQOF, HADS, PSEQ, PSQI. The quality of a patient’s life changes and affects the pursuit of everyday activities, sexuality, and the mental state of women. Most commonly depression and anxiety arise, which can worsen the feeling of pain. The nurse has the role of confidant and is the voice of the patients who would otherwise be unheard. Discussion and conclusion: Chronic pelvic pain is not talked about enough. Many causes for its appearance are yet to be found out, that’s why it’s important to holistically treat women. All aspects of life need to be discussed and areas in which the most help is needed need to be assessed. The nurse is responsible for encouraging studies in this field and making people aware of this topic. As well as this, the nurse must also offer the patient support and direction on their path to recovery. |
