Metode dela: V diplomskem delu smo uporabili deskriptivno metodo dela s pregledom obstoječe znanstvene in strokovne literature različnih raziskav v slovenskem in angleškem jeziku.

Sekundarni naslov: ǂThe ǂroll of a nurse in sustaining quality of life of people with intellectual disability
Sekundarni povzetek: Intellectual disability is characterized by significantly impaired intellectual and adaptive functioning. Intellectual disability affects about 1-3 % of the world's population. Causes that lead to intellectual disabilities can be influenced by factors of internal (genetic) determinants and/or external (environmental) ones. The disorder usually occurs before the age of 18 years; an intelligence quotient test is used to determine the degree of disorder. The purpose of this thesis is to present the role of nurses in preserving the life quality of people with intellectual disabilities. Methods: In this thesis, we used a descriptive method of work from a variety of sources of Slovenian and English written scientific literature. The research, reviews and collections of the literature took place from July 2018 to April 2019 through these databases: Medline, CHINAL with full text, and COBIS.SI. We see an increasing trend of extending the life expectancy of people with intellectual disability, which means that their numbers are increasing. People in the higher ranges of intellectual disability live in professional care facility centers, and staffers run into various problems especially in logistics of treatment since there is a wide variety of care needed depending on the disability of the person treated, while at the same time keeping in mind the oncoming pathologies that arise due to age related factors. People with intellectual disability need a detailed individual care plan that is tailored to each individual with his own set of disabilities. The care of families and professionals should be focused on increasing the quality of lives of these people.
