Abstract

Submerged arc welding of austenitic stainless steel |
Secondary abstract: |
Welded joints, made with submerged arc welding under the powder of austenitic stainless steels, must meet high-quality requirements. The properties of the weld must be as good as those of the base material. The welding process is widely used for the needs of nuclear, food, chemical and many other industries, where the quality of the weld is extremely important. To achieve the optimum quality of welds, it is necessary to carefully design and controls the welding technology. Our task was to accurately calculate the welding parameters for welding on 30 mm thick plate made of austenitic stainless steel EN 1.4301 / AISI304 and 70 mm thick plate made of austenitic stainless steel EN 1.4541 / AISI 321. In both cases, austenitic stainless steel EN 1.4404 / AISI 316L was used as supplementary material. When designing the welding technology, we paid special attention to the cooling time t8/5, which causes phase changes in the material. After welding was completed, delta ferrite measurements, tensile and flexural tests, and impact toughness tests were performed from the fabricated samples, which gave us information on the quality of the weld and the suitability of the welding material. We found that the weld was good quality and that the selected material was suitable for application to the base material. |
