Abstract

Secondary title: ǂThe ǂrelationship between preschool teachers' values and their way of working with immigrant children in preschool education
Secondary abstract: In the theoretical part of the thesis, we presented the importance of integrating immigrant children into the Slovenian educational system from the perspective of various programs, legislation or important documents defining the integration of immigrant children. We highlighted the importance of values in the action of an individual, in our case in the work of professionals in preschool education, and tried to connect it with intercultural education. The key to working with immigrant children is to provide the conditions for successful integration, which are often intertwined with organizational and, above all, personal factors that include values. In the empirical part of the thesis, we researched what values professionals evaluate as most important and how these values relate to their work with immigrant children. The survey involved 461 professionals. We divided the values into two groups; values oriented to others and values oriented to oneself. We established that professionals express more values oriented to others than values oriented to them, since the average was generally higher for values oriented to others. Among the values oriented to others, the most important is teaching children how to be honest and responsible. The analysis of correlations showed that there are more statistically significant positive correlations with the methods of work with the immigrant children in the values oriented to others than in the values oriented to oneself. Correlation coefficients were also higher, which indicates stronger relationships between items. The results of the thesis are important because they indicate that the orientation of the educator's values is related to his competence in working with immigrant children, especially when using specific methods of work.
