Abstract

S tem urbanistična in arhitekturna zasnova presega stereotipne predstave o krematorijih in jih približa uporabniku.

Secondary abstract: The master’s thesis deals with the always-current topic of death, which we have encountered over the centuries, only the type of burial has been changing. In the thesis a conceptual solution for renovation and extension of the existing Muta – Vuzenica cemetery is given as well as a design of a crematorium in Koroška, which makes different burial options in the present day possible. The analytical part con- cludes that Slovenia needs more crematoriums due to the increasing number of people who decide to be cremated. Theoretical starting points encompassing development and types of graves, types of cemeteries, the process of cremation, old customs and the perception of death are basic guidelines for the development of architectural and urban design. With that, urban and architectural design goes beyond stereotypical notions of crematoriums and brings them closer to the user. It is about the crematorium in a different context, namely crematorium as architecture, space and experience. An experience that not only has a morbid, dark and mournful tone but also is part of life. The structuring of the architecture reflects the character of the local space and corresponds to the identity of local population. Renovation of the cemetery and construction of a crematorium that represents the point of intersection - between the living and the dead. It offers a new way of perceiving death and life for the local residents and at the same time, it meets the criteria and offers an expected and important stage in our set experiences. The stage that completes our physical presence in this world and defines a fragment of our presence in the future.
