Abstract

Secondary title: Power BI as a business intelligence tool for small and medium companies
Secondary abstract: After examining business intelligence tools, it is hard to imagine that many companies do business without the appropriate business tools, or in their own customized way. In our thesis, we will first elaborate on business intelligence. Business intelligence definition, its integral parts and its capabilities. In connection with the topic of our mission, we will later focus on small and medium-sized companies, also known as SMEs. In particular, we will examine how to distinguish them from each other, what are their special properties, and determine what guidelines SMEs should follow when choosing a business intelligence tool Microsoft has a long tradition in development of business intelligence tools with add-ons to Excel, barely keeping up with the competition. In the latest round of development, Microsoft has developed a brand-new tool, Power BI, which has once again elevated them to the very top in business segment. Although there are also two paid versions of the tool on the market, the free version already offers us incredible data management capabilities, where user's imagination is almost the only limit. In the last part of the thesis we will examine Power BI properties and compare these with the SME’s BI related guidelines.
