Abstract

Sledila sta Vprašalnik Situacijskih osem (S8*) in Vprašalnik pozitivne in negativne emocionalnosti (PANAS).

Secondary title: Personality and situation as predictors of mood change on different days of the week
Secondary abstract: Previous research shows that individuals report different moods during the week. The purpose of the study was to study the factors that can explain the differences in mood depending on the day of the week. Mood was predicted by basic personality traits that determine stable aspects of individual's emotional response, as well as through individual's psychological assessment of the situation that can explain the variability of mood in specific situations. The sample group consisted of 145 participants, of whom 46 (31.7 %) were male and 99 (68.3 %) were female, with average age of 36.3 years (SD = 11.99). Participants had to complete the questionnaires twice (on Wednesday and on Saturday), between 9.30 am and 10.30 am. We asked the participants about their current activity and with whom and where they were at the time. The Situation Eight Questionnaire (S8*), the Positive and Negative Emotionality Questionnaire (PANAS) followed. However, the Big Five Questionnaire (BFI-K) was only completed the first time around. The results, as expected, showed that individuals experienced lower PE and lower NE on Saturdays than on Wednesdays. On Wednesdays, they experienced higher PE and higher NE than on Saturdays. Also, psychological assessments of situations on the DIAMONDS dimensions, as expected, varied depending on the day of the week; dimensions duty, intellect, adversity, negativity, deception, and sociability were higher on Wednesdays, while dimensions positivity and mating were higher on Saturdays. We concluded that positivity is the strongest situational predictor of PE and negativity is the strongest predictor of NE. Also, personality factors proved to be important predictors of mood. We can point out neuroticism, which on both days proved to be a statistically significant predictor of NE and extraversion, which turned out to be a statistically significant positive predictor of PE on Wednesdays, while it did not make a statistically significant contribution on predicting PE on Saturdays. The study also looked at the interactions between personality traits and subjective assessment of a situation when predicting mood change. However, interactions on Wednesdays and on Saturdays did not prove to be a significant predictor of mood change. Although a stable personality structure largely explains the stable dimensions of our emotional experience, it varies depending on the situation, so in order to understand how an individual feels at a given moment, we also need to take into account the situational characteristics and the interaction between the two. This study therefore added a comprehensive examination of the differences in subjective perception of the situation during the working week and over the weekend.
