Abstract

Secondary title: Discipline in childhood association with autonomy and intimacy in primary family, self-respect and satisfaction with life in adult
Secondary abstract: The main purpose of the master’s thesis was to research the connection of the frequency of the use of a certain method of disciplining in childhood with the relationship with the primary family and self-respect and satisfaction in life. In the theoretical part, we listed different definitions which are connected with disciplining the children, family, upbringing, self-respect, and satisfaction with life. We also described the use and consequences of certain methods of disciplining in childhood and the significance and consequences of mutual relationships in the family. In the empirical research, on the sample of 166 persons, we tested our hypotheses which were set with regards to the frequency of the use of a certain method of disciplining in the childhood, experiencing the autonomy and intimacy in the primary family and self-respect and satisfaction with life in the adulthood. We came to conclusions that the frequency of use of the punishment method of disciplining in the childhood is correlated with experiencing the autonomy and intimacy in the primary family and also with the self-respect and satisfaction with life in the adulthood. It turned out that more common use of the punishment method of disciplining shows lower experiencing autonomy and intimacy in the primary family and also lower self-respect and satisfaction in life in adulthood. It also turned out that more autonomy and intimacy were experienced in the primary family; higher self-respect and satisfaction with life is experienced in adulthood. Differences in experiencing autonomy and intimacy in the primary family with regards to the gender also became evident. Differences in experiencing autonomy and intimacy became evident also with regard to the age.
