Abstract

Secondary title: Sustainable tourism development with tourism carrying capacity in the case of the municipality Bovec
Secondary abstract: The master's thesis deals with the area of sustainable tourism development in the case of the municipality Bovec. The area has achieved record growth in tourist visits in the last five years. Consequently, this was reflected with signs of overtourism in the natural and social environment, especially in the peak season. To determine the capacity of a destination for tourism, an analysis of the carrying capacity was used. The method has been shown as a useful instrument for the planning and implementation of sustainable tourism. There were also two surveys used to research the satisfaction with the impact of tourism among the local population and visitors of the destination Bovec in order to assess social carrying capacity. The carrying capacity is based on an assessment of ten relevant indicators for the scenario of sustainable tourism development. The results showed that the main limiting factors were satisfaction of the local population and dormant traffic where the carrying capacity was exceeded. Four out of ten indicators do not exceed carrying capacity, four of the indicators are not sustainable. The analysis also identified other key challenges that need to be addressed in order to increase carrying capacity such as deseasonalization, effective visitor management, improving the quality of tourism services, increasing the satisfaction of the local population and providing adequate infrastructure. For the successful and efficient management of the destination, it is crucial that the carrying capacity constraints of the destination and the principles of sustainable development are taken into account in the further development, thus ensuring an optimal and balanced tourism development for all key stakeholders in the destination.
