Abstract

Secondary title: Swimming literacy for 2nd and 3rd graders after completing a 20-hour swimming course
Secondary abstract: In this thesis, we verified the swimming literacy of students who attend a 20-hour swimming course and work according to the program we set. We also tried to find out how swimming literacy is associated with gender, class, and the length of the 20-hour course. Five primary schools from northeastern Slovenia were included in the survey. Quantitative descriptive and non-experimental methods were used for the research. Students were tested and evaluated at the beginning and end of the swimming course, and the results were entered on the evaluation sheet. With the initial testing, we divided the students into four difficulty levels of swimming literacy, which was the base to form homogeneous groups and decide which goals and contents were appropriate for them. The results showed that at the beginning of the swimming course, half of the students achieve the goals from the curriculum. Most students achieve these goals at the end of the swimming course. According to the criteria of the Swimming Association of Slovenia, most students become swimmers at the end of the swimming course. The results also showed a statistically distinctive difference in students' swimming literacy according to the class in which the swimming course is carried out, while the results in the gender and length of the course did not show a statistically distinctive difference in students' swimming literacy.
