Abstract

V magistrskem delu smo naredili pregled znanstvene literature o perfekcionizmu in akademskem samooviranju, raziskali njun odnos, preučili njuno vlogo v študijski uspešnosti in preverili razlike med spoloma v obravnavanih konstruktih. Za namene raziskave smo prevedli in priredili Tridimenzionalni vprašalnik perfekcionizma (ang. The Big Three Perfectionism Scale; BTPS; Smith idr., 2016), ki predstavlja novo mero perfekcionizma in glede na predhodne raziskave (npr. Casale idr., 2020; Kilmen in Arikan, 2020; Smith idr., 2016) izkazuje dobre psihometrične lastnosti. V baterijo vprašalnikov smo vključili tudi Frostovo multidimenzionalno lestvico perfekcionizma (FMPS; Frost idr., 1990) in Vprašalnik učnega samooviranja (ASHS; Midgley idr., 1998). V raziskavi je sodelovalo 326 študentov 1. letnikov, ki obiskujejo različne študijske programe na fakultetah Univerze v Mariboru. Rezultati faktorske analize so pokazali, da se vprašalnik na našem vzorcu obnese približno v skladu s pričakovanji. S pomočjo multiple regresijske analize smo ugotovili, da neprilagojene dimenzije perfekcionizma (predvsem starševska kritika, narcisistični perfekcionizem in dvom v dejanja) statistično pomembno napovedujejo akademsko samooviranje v pozitivni smeri. Prilagojene dimenzije perfekcionizma so se prav tako pokazale kot statistično pomemben napovednik akademskega samooviranja, vendar pa skupaj pojasnjujejo le 4 % variance v preučevani spremenljivki. Narcisistični perfekcionizem in osebni standardi sta se pokazala kot pozitivna napovednika študijske uspešnosti, medtem ko je akademsko samooviranje negativni napovednik študijske uspešnosti. Ta tematika pri nas še ni bila podrobno raziskana, zato lahko naše ugotovitve pomembno prispevajo k spoznanjem pedagoške psihologije, prav tako pa so prenosljive tudi na druga področja. Dodano vrednost magistrskega dela vidimo tudi v prevedenem in prirejenem Tridimenzionalnem vprašalniku perfekcionizma, saj le-ta še ni bil uporabljen na slovenskem vzorcu in predstavlja obetaven pripomoček za nadaljnje raziskave.

Secondary title: Perfectionism in relation to academic self-handicapping and academic achievement
Secondary abstract: In the master's thesis, we examined the scientific literature on perfectionism and academic self-handicapping, considered correlations between these constructs and their role in academic achievement. We translated and adapted The Big Three Perfectionism Scale (BTPS; Smith et al., 2016); the questionnaire represents a new measure of perfectionism and compared to previous research (e.g. Casale et al., 2020; Kilmen and Arikan, 2020; Smith et al., 2016) shows good psychometric properties. In the battery of questionnaires, we included Frost Multidimensional Perfectionism Scale (FMPS; Frost et al., 1990) and Academic Self-handicapping Scale (ASHS; Midgley et al., 1998). Our research was conducted on 326 first-year students who attend various study programs at the faculties of the University of Maribor. The results of the factor analysis showed that the questionnaire performed approximately as expected. Results of regression analysis showed that the maladaptive dimensions of perfectionism (especially parental criticism, narcissistic perfectionism, and doubts in taking actions) significantly predict academic self-handicapping in a positive direction. The adaptive dimensions of perfectionism also statistically proved to be a significant predictor of academic self-handicapping, but together they explain only 4 % of the variance in the studied variable. Narcissistic perfectionism and personal standards have statistically proven to be positive predictors of academic achievement; however, academic self-handicapping is a negative predictor of academic achievement. The present topic has not yet been researched in Slovenia, therefore, our findings can significantly contribute to the knowledge of educational psychology; furthermore, our results can also be transferred to other professional fields. The added value of the master's thesis is also in the translated and adapted Slovenian version of the questionnaire The Big Three Perfectionism Scale, as this new measure of perfectionism has not yet been applied in any Slovenian sample and represents a promising tool for further research.
