Abstract

Secondary title: ǂThe ǂcomparison of slovenian and finnish curriculum for the field of physical education
Secondary abstract: The purpose of this master's thesis is to thoroughly present the Slovenian and Finnish (Rovaniemi) curriculum for the subject of physical education (PE) in the key stages 1 and 2 of primary school - namely from year one until year six. The first finding is that the Finnish PE curriculum is included in the document where the curricula for other subjects are presented, whereas the Slovenian PE curriculum is a separate document. When comparing both curricula, similarities and differences are observed, yet the dissimilarities prevail. Both curricula have their general objectives stated and lay the emphasis on operational objectives and educational recommendations. The dissimilarities between the Slovenian and Finnish PE curricula predominantly concern standards of knowledge (in the Slovenian PE curriculum the standards are described in detail for each key stage and thematic module - with the minimum standards of knowledge included, however, in the Finnish PE curriculum, the standards of knowledge are given merely at the end of year 6 - also, the minimum standards of knowledge are not included), subject content (in the Slovenian PE curriculum the subject content is provided after each thematic module, but in the Finish PE curriculum there is no section providing subject content), recommendations to motivate pupils (in the Slovenian PE curriculum motivation is mentioned merely in the section of educational recommendations, whereas in the Finnish PE curriculum the recommendations are listed for each key stage individually), additional content section (in the Slovenian PE curriculum the additional content section is included after each chapter, however, there is no section about additional content in the Finnish PE curriculum) and educational recommendations (in the Slovenian PE curriculum they are neatly listed after each thematic module, as well as cross-curricular teaching, however in the Finnish PE curriculum the recommendations are very general and there is no emphasis on cross-curricular teaching).
