magistrsko delo
Abstract

ǂThe ǂimpact of judo training on ADHD symptoms in elementary school students |

Hyperactive disorder, or attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder, or ADHD, belongs to a group of behavioural-emotional disorders diagnosed to a growing number of children in recent years. People with the hyperactive disorder are disadvantaged in various areas, which prevents them from functioning successfully in society. Such persons are perceived as demanding, aggressive, spoiled due to their frequent impulsive actions. They achieve lower school results due to low concentration and are less organized, consistent, and self-initiative due to problems in the executive function areas. Recently, people with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder can be successfully supported to reduce these problems by various approaches: people with ADHD can use drugs to improve concentration, can help themselves with various therapies or proper nutrition, and last but not least, engaging in sports might help to release their excess energy in a socially acceptable way. Sport has a positive effect on an individual's physical processes, values, and physical health. The purpose of the master's thesis was to determine if judo, a discipline with a specific philosophy, can improve the symptoms of ADHD or the child's executive functions by using children who attended judo training and had been diagnosed with ADHD. In a two-month survey of 19 students, 7 of whom attended judo training once a week, and the other 12 were in the control group without a particular task, we used a standardized BRIEF questionnaire to determine whether there was an improvement in various areas of student's executive functions. The survey showed (by using the SPSS program) that students, who attended judo training, improved their initial results in all eleven areas of executive functions. However, statistically significant differences were found in some individual executive functions. Based on the obtained results, we attributed a vital role to judo as a discipline in solving students' executive functions with ADHD. |
