diplomsko delo visokošolskega študijskega programa Varnost in policijsko delo
Abstract

The case study: »Questionable meat« |
Secondary abstract: |
Nowadays, many various food products from all over the world come on the sales market. Food travels through several chains from the farm to the slaughterhouse, then to the store and, finally, to the consumer. Due to the number of partners participating in this chain, product controversy also arises. One of the products is meat. This thesis describes one of th example of the arrival of unfit meat on the sales market from Ramsauer Fleisch, an Austrian slaughterhouse. In October 2019, consumers were able to buy the unfit meat at some butchers and in larger stores. The unfit meat was allegedly too watery, which was the reason for recalling the product. The slaughterhouse later went bankrupt and many Slovenian traders and farmers suffered a loss of profit. The consequences of eating such meat lead to a deterioration in human health: from listeria to salmonella, cancer, etc. Thenfore, adequate supervision and raising awareness of people is all the more important. If all competent authorities would carry out double control over food, as they do in Slovenia, and would inform people about such incidents, the situation would improve. Because general republic is still insufficiently aware of the consequences of food safety incidents, the number of such cases is growing. People need to be aware of what they eat and buy and they should grow as much as possible at their home gardens and buy locally. Because fre market rules apply in Slovenia products are put to market that do not necessarily show high quality. Therefore, consumers should not only look for the lowest possible price, but also at the quality of the product. In the food chain, everyone needs to be aware of their responsibilities: from the farmer deciding on how to raise the animals, to the veterinarian who should inspect the animals and all the way to the buyer who decides what to buy and eat. If consumers have proper control and are aware of the parameters of price and quality when buying products, especially meat, they will maintain the safety of products and look after their health. |
