Abstract

Teoretična izhodišča: Akutna zastrupitev z nedovoljenimi drogami je življenjsko ogrožajoče zdravstveno stanje, ki zahteva dobro poznavanje simptomov in temu primerno takojšnje ukrepanje. Zato je pomembno, da zdravstveni delavci hitro prepoznajo simptome in so dovolj dobro usposobljeni na tem področju. Raziskovalna metodologija: V teoretičnem delu diplomskega naloge smo uporabili opisno (deskriptivno) metodo dela.

Secondary title: The Ability of Healthcare Professionals to Recognize the Symptoms of Acute Poisoning by Illicit Drugs
Secondary abstract: Theoretical background: Acute drug poisoning is a life-threatening health condition that requires a good knowledge of the symptoms and appropriate immediate action. It is therefore, essential that health professionals recognise the symptoms quickly and have sufficientl training expirience in this field. Research methodology: In the theoretical part of the thesis, a descriptive method of work was applied. We presented the most common illicit drugs and described not only the symptoms of acute drug poisoning but also the measures of first aid and emergency medical assistance. In the research part of the thesis, we wanted to determine to what degree health professionals are qualified to recognise the symptoms of acute drug poisoning and how well they are familiarised with the first aid and emergency medical care measures. Results: : It was established that according to health professionals, the symptoms of acute drug poisoning depend primarily on the type of a drug that induced poisoning in a patient. The analysis of the collected data showed that health professionals have sufficient knowledge of first aid measures and emergency medical assistance in acute drug poisoning and, therefore, need no additional training. Discussion and conclusion: We believe, however, that health professionals should acquire more knowledge on how to recognise the symptoms of acute drug poisoning.
