diplomsko delo visokošolskega študijskega programa Varnost in policijsko delo
Abstract
Obstajajo številne metode zdravljenja posttravmatske stresne motnje. Ugotavljal sem, kateri pristop je bolj učinkovit in kakšne so prednosti obeh metod.
Fenomen posttravmatske stresne motnje je v znanstvenih krogih še zmerom premalo raziskan, čeprav so znaki ogromnega napredka v zadnjih dvajsetih letih.

Stress and post-traumatic stress disorder in uniformed services |
Secondary abstract: |
This diploma thesis contains everything there is to know about stress, types of stress disorders, posttraumatic stress disorder, types of stressors in uniformed services (chosen uniformed services are: the law enforcement, the military, the fire fighters and the emergency medical technicians), also there is a discussion about the methods of treatment of posttraumatic stress disorder.
Stress is a phenomenon we encounter each day. Because of it we manifest stress reactions that can be positive or negative by nature. Traumatic stressors are the primary source of more severe types of stress disorders such as posttraumatic stress disorder. Whether the aforementioned disorder will manifest itself or not depends on plethora of factors, which will be discussed in this diploma thesis. Members of uniformed services encounter stressors, which can be ambient or manmade by nature, while conducting their everyday jobs. In this diploma thesis I primarily focused on four major groups of uniformed services: the law enforcement, the military, the fire fighters and the emergency medical technicians. I have investigated stressors specific to the nature of work of aforementioned uniformed services, however I have also emphasized on finding whether there are common stressors throughout the services. There are many different methods of treatment of posttraumatic stress disorder. I have focused mainly on therapeutic methods and the methods of usage of psychotropic medications. My objective was to find out which approach is more efficient and I was also trying to list the benefits of both methods. The phenomenon of posttraumatic stress disorder is relatively unexplored; however there have been made major discoveries in the last twenty years. I find it important that further investigations of the topic take place, because by understanding stress disorders we may understand society as a whole, moreover we will also understand interpersonal relations between individuals much better. |
