Abstract

Z raziskavo smo želeli ugotoviti, kakšni so ti razlogi.

Secondary title: ǂThe ǂreasons for presenteeism in the public and private sector
Secondary abstract: Even though this is a relatively new research field, presenteeism is a concept, which has always existed and has a complex nature. It means that employees show up at work despite feeling bad or having health issues, even though they could be entitled to sick-leave. The reasons for presenteeism differ and depend on the individual. With the research, we wanted to find out these reasons. Along with the study of these reasons, we were interested in the comparison of reasons between the public and private sector. The research included 470 participants. We approached the research with a linear regression analysis, which we have used to determine the influence of the independent variable on the dependent variable. Since we were also interested in the reasons in a foreign working environment, we used the findings of our research to conduct an international comparison with Great Britain. In addition to the study of reasons in the Slovenian working environment, our research did not detect any influence of independent variables like the leadership type, relationships between co-workers and suitable working conditions on the presence of presenteeism. The statement that the reasons for presenteeism are the same in both sector, could be only partially affirmed, since there are statistically significant differences in the case of some reasons. This thesis is practical, since the obtained results can present a starting point for more thorough researches in certain fields (regarding the type of work) or in individual organizations. The thesis is also useful for the social environment, since we are in a very sensitive period of the SARS-CoV-2 epidemic, where the general public is more sensitive about the state of health and is thus more aware about the responsibility to oneself and to others.
