Abstract

Secondary abstract: NIL Ltd. is one of the leading IT solutions’ companies in Slovenia. Their most important values are knowledge, personnel training, and employee development. They are aware of the fact that a company in the ever-changing IT industry can only be competitive with top-level expertise. The master thesis focuses on knowledge and employee development at NIL Ltd. Due to the great emphasis on continuous education and personnel development in organizations, the theme of the thesis pertains to these two key factors, which largely influence the operations and profitability of organizations. In the IT sector, a constant growth in knowledge is expected for employees as well as organizations to maintain their competitive edge. The importance of knowledge, personnel development, and the interconnecting influence of employee development and upgrading knowledge has been defined in the theoretical part of the thesis. The empirical part consists of a research done with a survey at the company and the analysis of the obtained results. The survey pertains to knowledge and employee development in the chosen organization. A high level of organizational knowledge has been established and a lot of employees state they actively use knowledge. The main reason why employees do not use the knowledge at their disposal is the lack of time. Gender, age, education, and type of employment do not seem to play a factor in the usage of knowledge among employees, as they are aware knowledge contributes to their career development. The organization should find a way to enable more time for the employees to educate themselves.
