Abstract

Secondary abstract: Slovene language teaching in Serbia has a long tradition which goes back to the very beginning of the 20th century, when the first Slovene course was organised specially for literary translators at the then Higher School in Belgrade in 1907/1908. From 1918 to 1991, both Slovene and Serbian developed simultaneously in the shared state, and this is the period when the foundations for future scientific research and an in-depth Slovene study programme were laid at the University of Belgrade. Following the introduction of a parallel four-year Slovene study programme at university level, and the introduction of Slovene language courses for members of the Slovene minority, the next objective is to introduce the Slovene language and elements of culture in elementary and high schools in Serbia.
