Secondary abstract: | In recent years many of the books prescribed for reading in primary and secondary schools have led to public polemics. At least five of them have been accused by parents and civil groups of being pornographic and vulgar. With regard to literature and pornography there remain many hard to resolve or unresolvable questions: what is pornography and who decides; what is erotica; what is child pornography and erotica; and whether one can judge something to be pornography on the basis of short extracts. This article shows the true complexity of these issues. |
