Abstract
V diplomski nalogi je izpostavljena vloga tolmača slovenskega znakovnega jezika na
področju visokošolskega izobraževanja gluhih. To področje predstavlja za tolmača velik izziv,
saj zahteva posebna znanja in veščine, ki naj bi jih pridobival z osnovnim in nadaljnjim
izobraževanjem. Za boljše razumevanje problemov, s katerimi se srečuje tolmač pri svojem
delu, so v teoretičnem delu najprej podane definicije gluhote, njen vpliv na psiho-socialni
razvoj posameznika ter njegov način komunikacije. Znakovni jezik je najrazvitejša oblika
sporazumevanja gluhih, zato je predstavljen njegov zgodovinski razvoj in problematika
uresničevanja pravice do izobraževanja v znakovnem jeziku pri nas in v tujini. Sprejetje
Zakona o uporabi slovenskega znakovnega jezika je odprlo pot novemu poklicu −
tolmaču/tolmačici slovenskega znakovnega jezika, za katerega izobraževanje in certificiranje
skrbi Zavod združenje tolmačev za slovenski znakovni jezik. Dana je primerjava
izobraževanja tolmačev pri nas in v ZDA in Veliki Britaniji. Predstavljeni sta tudi dve tuji
študiji, ki proučujeta vlogo in učinkovitost tolmača na visokošolskem področju. V
empiričnem delu so na podlagi kvalitativne študije, narejene s pomočjo polstrukturiranih
odprtih intervjujev, raziskane težave tolmačev pri tolmačenju v visokošolskem okolju, vzroki
za le-te ter dejavniki, ki vplivajo na kvaliteto tolmačevega dela, kot tudi strategije in
alternativne rešitve, ki se pojavljajo kot odgovori na aktualno problematiko. Rezultati raziskav
so bili primerljivi s tujimi izsledki; da bi tolmač lahko kvalitetno opravljal svoje delo, naj bi
imel visokošolsko izobrazbo, vešč naj bi bil tako simultanega tolmačenja kot tudi tolmačenja
prilagojenega znakovnemu jeziku. Prilagoditi se mora tudi potrebam gluhih študentov, ki so
med seboj lahko zelo različni glede znanja znakovnega jezika in jezika večine, kot tudi
splošnega predznanja. Zelo pomembna je predpriprava tolmača na predavanja. Ugotavlja se,
da kljub optimalnim pogojem tolmač ne more v celoti nadomestiti neposrednega stika med
profesorjem in študentom, zato se pojavlja potreba po dodatnih rešitvah, kot so zapisnikarstvo
in tutorstvo. Izsledki kvalitativne študije so nakazali specifične težave, s katerimi se srečujejo
naši tolmači in gluhi študentje. Te so pomanjkanje kretenj za strokovne izraze, potreba po
permanentnem izobraževanju tolmačev in neuresničevanje Zakona o uporabi slovenskega
znakovnega jezika s strani univerz.

The thesis deals with the role of interpreter for Slovenian sign language in higher education of
the deaf. It represents a major challenge for the interpreter, since it requires special knowledge
and skills, acquired during the basic and further education. For a better understanding of the
problems faced by an interpreter, the theoretical part starts with the definition of deafness, its
impact on the psycho-social development of the individual and their way of communication.
Sign language is the most advanced form of communication of the deaf; we presented its
historical development and the topic of the right to education in sign language in Slovenia and
abroad. The adoption of the Law on the Use of Slovenian Sign Language has opened the way
for a new profession – interpreter for Slovenian sign language, the training and certification
for which is in the domain of the Slovenian Association of Sign Language Interpreters. A
comparison of the education of interpreters in Slovenia and in the USA and Great Britain is
given. Further on, two foreign studies on the role and effectiveness of interpreters in higher
education are presented. The empirical part of the thesis deals with the difficulties that
interpreters face while working in higher education, the reasons for this and the factors that
affect the quality of interpreters’ work, as well as strategies and alternative solutions that
emerge as response to this issue. The research results are based on qualitative studies, made
with the help of semi-structured open interviews and are comparable with foreign findings.
The interpreter, in order to be able to perform their work well, should have completed higher
education, be skilled in simultaneous interpreting as well as in the sign language interpreting.
He/she has to adjust to the needs of deaf students which can be very different between them in
terms of knowledge of sign language and the language of the majority as well as the general
background knowledge. The preparation of the interpreter for the lectures is of extreme
importance. It is noted that, despite the optimal conditions, the interpreter cannot fully replace
direct contact between professors and students, so there is a need for additional solutions,
such as minute-keeping and tutoring. The results of the qualitative study have indicated
specific problems faced by interpreters and deaf students in Slovenia, namely lack of gestures
for terms, the need for permanent education of interpreters and putting into action the Law on
the Use of Slovenian Sign Language by universities. |
