Abstract

Secondary title: Upgrading and Reconstruction of the Center for Execution of Criminal Sanctions in Montenegro
Secondary abstract: The master’s thesis discusses the idea of upgrading and renovating the Center for the Execution of Criminal Sanctions in city Danilovgrad in Montenegro, based on analyzes of the current situation in the country, in relation to the quality of conditions and capacity of the existing complex. The project shows the architectural and functional difference between two different prison systems. It is essential that the prison represents a city within a city and consists of several sets of buildings for prisoners, for employees, and accompanying activities. Throughout history, an important duality has been developed, pertaining to the opinions and perceptions regarding the use of prisons as punishment. This duality poses essential questions - what kind of punishment is appropriate and how can prisons help ensure that prisoners are not only punished, but rehabilitated?
