Abstract
Metode: V zaključnem delu smo uporabili kvantitativno metodologijo in izvedli presečno opazovalno raziskavo. Podatke smo zbrali s pomočjo anketiranja na priložnostnem vzorcu 103 študentov zdravstvene nege v eni izmed zdravstvenih fakultet v Severovzhodni Sloveniji. Zbrane podatke smo analizirali s pomočjo deskriptivne in inferenčne statistike.

Nursing students’ knowledge and attitude on pressure ulcer prevention |
Secondary abstract: |
Introduction: A pressure ulcer, also known as bedsore, is caused by local pressure on the skin or tissue and the action of shear forces. In the clinical setting, they represent an increasing problem for patients and health professionals. The study aimed to investigate the knowledge and attitude of nursing students towards the prevention of pressure ulcers.
Methods: We used quantitative methodology and conducted a cross-sectional observational survey as part of the research. Data was collected by surveying a convenience sample of 103 nursing students in one of the nursing faculties in north-eastern Slovenia. The collected data was analyzed using descriptive and inferential statistics.
Results: More than 50% of nursing students demonstrated sufficient knowledge to prevent pressure ulcers. We did not detect statistically significant differences in average knowledge between postgraduate and undergraduate students. In determining the attitude towards preventing pressure ulcers, we found that nursing students have a positive attitude. They scored an average of 29,8 out of 52 possible points, which is more than half.
Discussion and conclusion: We found that nursing students have sufficient knowledge and a positive attitude towards pressure ulcer prevention. To achieve improvements in nursing and practice, nursing students have to acquire knowledge in all areas of pressure ulcer prevention, such as proper patient posture, nutrition, and internal and external factors. Our research can help improve knowledge on pressure ulcer prevention in nursing students. |
